In the name of Allah, Most Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy.
Ali Ibn Abī Tālib narrated that Allah’s Messenger (salallāhu alaihi wasallam) said: “When a servant of Allah uses the siwāk, then stands to pray, an angel stands behind him. He listens to his recitation and draws close to him, until he places his mouth over his, such that nothing of the Quran leaves his mouth except that it enters the angel — so purify your mouths for the [recitation of the] Quran.”
Reported by Al-Bazzār in his Musnad (603) graded saheeh by Al-Albāni in as-Saheehah (1213)

Imām al-Ājurrī stated:
“I love that the one who wishes to recite the Quran in the night or day, that he should purify himself (wudoo) — and use the miswāk — and that is in veneration of the Quran because he is reciting the speech of the Lord, the Mighty and Majestic. And because the angels draw close to him (or her) when he recites the Quran — so an angel draws near to him, and if he had used the miswāk, he places his mouth over his, and each time he recites an āyah, the angel takes it into his mouth. And if he did not use the miswāk, the angel becomes distant from him. And it is not for you, O people of the Quran, to cause the angel to distance himself from you!”
