Question: What is the ruling concerning a man who hears a sound thinking that it is the Adhān for Maghrib, and breaks his fast – then he realises that it was a mistake, and it wasn’t the Adhān for Maghrib?
Answer: He should refrain from eating and drinking as soon as he realises it was a mistake. Then complete the fast until Maghrib, and there is no atonement (qādā) to make up the fast.
