The Life of the Prophet Muhammad (may Allah extol him and grant him peace) — A Complete Chronology
A chronological account of the life of the Messenger of Allah, Muhammad ibn ʿAbdillāh ibn ʿAbdil-Muttalib (sallallāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), beginning with his noble lineage, his parents, his birth and upbringing, and his early years leading up to the first revelation.
The series then follows his Prophethood: the revelation of the Qur’an, the early believers who embraced Islam, the opposition and persecution faced by the Prophet and his Companions in Makkah, the various challenges and trials, and the events leading up to the Night Journey (al-Isrāʾ wal-Miʿrāj).
It then covers the Hijrah to Madinah, the establishment of the Muslim community and the foundations of the Islamic nation, the formation of brotherhood between the Muhājirūn and the Ansār, the development of the Ummah, the battles and military expeditions, the treaties and alliances with the various tribes, his marriages, his children, those who lived and those who died, and the continued spread of the daʿwah.
Throughout, the series will also examine the revelation of the Qur’an and the legislation of the Sharīʿah, placing the relevant rulings of Islām within their historical context.
Finally, it will cover the conquest of Makkah, the completion and triumph of the Prophetic mission, the Farewell Hajj, the Farewell Sermon, and the final illness and death of this great Prophet and virtuous Messenger of Allah (sallallāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam).
The objective is to present a complete, historically ordered account of the life of the Prophet, from his ancestry to his death — to follow the journey of his Prophethood, the revelation and the establishment of Islam over the course of twenty-three years.
I was encouraged to embark upon this project by a small Arabic book that I received as a gift from a brother simply entitled (Taghridāt as-Sīrah an-Nabawiyyah), “Short Posts on the Life of the Prophet ﷺ.” So, after reading that and benefiting from it, I decided to begin this similar (though more detailed) compilation, may Allāh accept it.
