Is a Coup D’etat or a Military Overthrow of a Government allowed in the Religion?

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Question to Al-Imām Al-Albāni: That which is referred to in these times as a military overthrow of the rulers – is this something present in the Religion or is it an innovation (bid’ah)?

Answer: These activities have no basis in the Religion – they are in opposition to the methodology of Islam in laying the foundations of the da’wah and establishing a good land for it. This [military coup d’etat] is an innovation of the unbelievers that has affected some of the Muslims. And this is what I stated in the notes and explanation of Al-‘Aqeedah At-Tahawiyyah.
