The Final Nights of Our Scholars from Ahlus-Sunnah — by Shaikh Abdullah Adh-Dhafiri

The following short treatise was compiled by Shaikh ʿAbdullāh Ibn Salfīq Adh-Dhafīrī (may Allāh preserve him).

The Final Night in the Life of Shaikh Ibn Bāz (may Allāh have mercy upon him)

His wife said: “He would awaken and laugh, then sleep before awakening in a state of laughter, then he slept again — and this was not his norm. Then he died in in that night of his.”

The Final Night in the Life of Shaikh Muqbil Ibn Hādī Al-Wādiʿī (may Allāh have mercy upon him)

One of the close friends of the Shaikh said: “In the final night of his life, I and a few brothers were accompanying him in his room, and we would read upon him whenever he would arouse from unconsciousness.

So we were reading, whereupon entered the room a man who gave salām, before proceeding to cry. Then the Shaikh cried, and all who were present also cried. For lo, it was Shaikh Rabīʿ Ibn Hādī who had entered upon him, and that was the final night in the life of the Shaikh.”

The Final Night in the Life of Shaikh Ibn ʿUthaimīn (may Allāh have mercy upon him)

His son said: “In the final night of my father, he would awaken and recite the Qurʾān before drifting off — us not knowing whether he slept or was unconscious — then he would once again awaken and recite the Qurʾān. And so it was the length of the night.

And this was in the final night of his life, and he passed away after this by a few hours.”

The Final Night in the Life of Shaikh Muhammad Amān Al-Jāmī (may Allāh have mercy upon him)

One of the students of the Shaikh said: “The Shaikh was one who read plentifully, so when he became weak, he ceased being able to read, so he would make his son ʿAlī or ʿAbdul-Malik read upon him.”

The son of the Shaikh said: “And in the last night, he commanded me to read, and I did so at great length, and the Shaikh would say: ‘Yes, proceed.’

I would not stop to take a breath or drink some water, except that he would say: ‘Read!’ So I would read. And as such it went on until he slipped into the unconciousness of death. But he arose from this once and said: ‘O ʿAlī! Convey to the scholars: Fear Allāh regarding the ʿAqīdah! Fear Allāh regarding Tawhīd!’ And he died after this.”

The Final Night in the Life of Shaikh Muhammad Nāsir Ad-Dīn Al-Albānī (may Allāh have mercy upon him)

Sakīnah, the daughter of Shaikh Al-Albānī (may Allāh have mercy upon her) said: “My father was afflicted by a number of illnesses, from them being anemia, loss of liver function, and one of his kidneys was also afflicted — and alongside this he was patient and content, almost as if he was not in any pain. And in his final night whilst he was asleep, I heard him saying [in his sleep]: ‘Hand to me Kitāb Al-Jarh wat-Taʿdīl, bring me Kitāb Al-ʿIlal, such-and-such a volume and such-and-such a page.’”

May Allāh have mercy upon our scholars who are the crowns upon our heads, and may He raise us with them in the Highest Gardens of Al-Firdaws without us having to be punished or taken to account. O Lord! [Raise us in this], the circle of the the Prophets and the Righteous.
