قال عبد الوهاب الوراق : ((ما رأيت مثل أحمد بن حنبل ـ رحمة الله عليه ـ، قالوا له: وأيش الذي كان من فضله وعلمه على سائر من رأيت؟، قال: رجل سئل عن ستين ألف مسألة فأجاب عنها بأن قال: حدثنا وأخبرنا)) الطيوريات ١٠٢٦
‘Abdul-Wahhaab al-Warraaq (rahimahullaah) said:
“I have not seen the likes of Ahmad Ibn Hanbal, may Allaah’s mercy be upon him.”
They said:
“And what is it from his virtues and knowledge over and above others whom you have seen?”
He responded:
“The man was asked regarding sixty thousand affairs, and he answered by saying: Haddathanaa and Akhbaranaa!”
i.e. So-and-so narrated to us, and so-and-so informed us. So Imaam Ahmad would answer every question beginning with the chain of narration leading to a hadeeth.
