The Speech and Voice of Allah: Ibn Kullāb (died 240 AH) and the Repentance of Al-Ash’ari before his death in 324 AH.

This article discusses the attitudes of the Ash’aris towards the voice, letters and speech of Allah alongside their belief in the speech of the Self. It moves on to explain the ‘aqeedah of the early Salaf and then Ibn Taymiyyah. Also discussed is the link between Ibn Kullab and Abul-Hasan Al-Ash’ari – and then his subsequent repentance from the beliefs of the Mu’tazilah, then retracting from Ibn Kullab and finally adopting the creed of Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal.
