BISMILLAH

‘Abdul-Wahhaab al-Warraaq (rahimahullaah) said:

“I have not seen the likes of Ahmad Ibn Hanbal, may Allaah’s mercy be upon him.”

They said:

“And what is it from his virtues and knowledge over and above others whom you have seen?”

He responded:

“The man was asked regarding sixty thousand affairs, and he answered by saying: Haddathanaa and Akhbaranaa!”

i.e. So-and-so narrated to us, and so-and-so informed us. So Imaam Ahmad would answer every question beginning with the chain of narration leading to a hadeeth.
